Reddit Dynamic Product Ads: What you need to know

Have you ever gone to Reddit to discover new products, weigh the pros and cons of different options, and get validation from like-minded people before making a purchase? You’re not the only one.

That’s why Reddit recently introduced Dynamic Product Ads to connect shoppers with relevant products as they explore, discuss, and decide on purchases.

What does this mean for eCommerce advertisers? Well, it allows you to get your products in front of Reddit visitors who are primed to buy.

In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Reddit Dynamic Product Ads, including what they are, the key features, how to set them up, and some tips for success.

What are Reddit Dynamic Product Ads?

Reddit Dynamic Product Ads automatically create ads from your product catalog, showcasing the right product to the right user at the right time. Dynamic Product Ads combine user shopping signals with machine learning and advertiser product catalogs to deliver “the most relevant products to convert high user intent into action by connecting people with the products they’re looking for, at the very moment they’re looking for them.”

Note: Reddit DPAs are recommended for advertisers with catalogs of more than 2,500 products.

Reddit Dynamic Product Ads key features and benefits

Reddit advertisers who want to launch Dynamic Product Ads can benefit from the following features:

  1. Instant campaign creation: The ads are dynamically populated with up-to-date product imagery, pricing, and details directly from your product catalog.

  2. Two targeting options: Retargeting displays ads based on previous website interactions, while Prospecting shows relevant products based on Reddit or advertiser site engagement.

  3. Support across the purchase journey: Engage Reddit users throughout the discovery, consideration, and decision-making phases using feed and conversation placements, as well as single image or carousel ad formats.

Reddit Dynamic Product Ads offer a streamlined way to serve relevant products to the right people at the perfect moment. Let's dive into how to create them.

Setting up Reddit Dynamic Product Ads in 3 steps

Before you can start creating your Reddit Dynamic Product Ads campaign, you need to set up a product catalog. In the Reddit Ads dashboard, go to ‘Catalogs’ and either upload a CSV file of all your products or sync it with an existing data feed. Additionally, make sure that you’ve installed the Reddit Pixel so that you can accurately track your conversions and measure the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns.

Step 1: Create your campaign

In the Reddit Ads dashboard select ‘Create Campaign’. Next, name your campaign with something easy to identify such as “DPAs Prospecting Q3 2024”. Select ‘catalog sales’ and click ‘continue’.

Step 2: Create your ad group

Reddit recommends creating two ad groups, one for prospecting and another for retargeting, with a similar budget, as well as splitting ads between feed and conversation placement to reach users across different purchase journeys.

Once you’ve named your ad group, select the product catalog that you want to advertise. If this is your first DPA campaign, select ‘all products’ when asked to choose a product set. Enable the ‘Dynamic ads’ toggle before choosing your audience type. Select ‘Prospecting’ if you want to find new people interested in your products or ‘Retargeting’ to target people who’ve previously shown interest in your products on your site.

Step 3: Create your dynamic product ads

Once you’ve created your ad group, you’re ready to create your ads. Here’s how:

  1. Give a name to your ad, e.g. “Spring / Summer Collection”

  2. Select your post type. Choose ‘image’ to advertise a single product or ‘carousel’ to advertise multiple products.

  3. Add a headline that’s under 300 characters. This will appear above or next to your products.

  4. Select whether to display the product’s description or price in your ad’s bottom caption. If you include sale prices, users will see the sales price and the original price striked out.

  5. Choose whether to use the destination URL from your catalog or override it with a custom URL.

  6. Select a call-to-action.

  7. Select ‘Review’ and then ‘Publish’.

Reddit Dynamic Product Ads: Best practices

Reddit Dynamic Product Ads offer a powerful way to reach potential customers and drive sales. Here are three tips to set up your DPA campaigns for success:

Optimize and maintain your product feed

As DPAs are automatically generated based on your product feed, it’s crucial to make sure that your product catalog is up-to-date with accurate product titles, descriptions, images, pricing, and availability. This prevents redditors from seeing out-of-stock items or incorrect prices in ads.

It’s also important to provide as much detail about your products as possible, including size, color, material, and other relevant attributes. This helps Reddit's algorithm show the most relevant products to users.

Tip: Upload high-resolution images that are at least 500x500 pixels. Reddit recommends uploading an image that displays your item in front of a white background.

Use product sets to organize your catalog

While Reddit recommends selecting ‘All Products’ in your catalog when first getting started, after the first 30 days you can start to create product sets. Product sets allow you to specify which products are served in your Dynamic Product Ads. For example, you might create a category product set to drive conversions to a new collection, or create a promo product set based on items that are on sale to create sale-specific ads.
